Akan wood mask, 'Forgiveness' (Ghana)


Named Fakye (Forgive in the Akan language) , this extraordinary horn mask is carved by Wilson Aboagye. He sculpts it by hand of seasoned sese wood and embellishes it with richly embossed brass. Horns are said to represent power in Ghanaian society, and men from royal families often wear these masks as part of their ceremonial attire.
